The Smell of Fresh Baked Cookies… Yummy!

Cookies  warm hearts and bring smiles. Here at The Gables we know the importance of keeping Traditions. Many Traditions come through the foods we make.

“Remember that YUMMY FUDGE mom would make?  Oh and Aunt Diana’s CHOCOLATE CAKE was the BEST!  I remember GRANDMA and her DIVINITY! Grandma would add red food color to the mix and it would turn it pink, then she would add some diced candied cherries and stir in chopped walnuts.

Too often we forget to write down these recipes so that our generations to come can enjoy them as much as we do.

Often I remember Grandma saying the recipe is in my head. Its good to take the time to write down those recipes so that throughout the upcoming years it can be enjoyed.

Grandma’s Soft Sugar Cookies
400° 5-7 minutes
1 cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup sour cream
1 3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
6 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cream butter, sour cream, until light in color. Add ,sugar, eggs , vanilla extract, and almond extract just until combined.
In a separate mixing bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet in three additions.

Roll out your dough on a floured surface, cut out shapes, place on a parchment lined cookie sheet, placed immediately into the oven.
Do not let your dough get warm, refrigerate your cookies that are waiting to go into the oven . (if your dough gets warm then the cookies will not keep shape as well)

(Place cold cookies directly from the refrigerator into the hot oven).

This way the cookies will not lose their shape if you refrigerate them after you cut them out.

From our home to yours!
